Sandwich Women's Institute (WI) have enjoyed a trip to Parliament organised by their local Member of Parliament for South Thanet, Craig Mackinlay MP.
During the course of the visit, which took place on Tuesday 22 May, the WI members toured the historic Westminster Palace and viewed the proceedings of the House of Commons and Lords from the public gallery before meeting their MP for an hour-long question and answer session.
Craig Mackinlay MP, commented:
“I was so pleased that Sandwich WI took the time to visit me in Parliament. They had an enjoyable day experiencing the delights of what is the most beautiful and historic Parliament in the world. I also greatly enjoyed our informal Q&A where we discussed plastic pollution, mental health, Brexit, electoral boundary changes and the status of the House of Lords - hugely topical subjects. My constituents at Sandwich WI were a pleasure to host and I look forward to keeping in touch with the group.”
Sandwich WI President, Pat Jones, added:
“In addition to an interesting tour of the Parliament building we enjoyed an hour long meeting with our MP during which we were able to discuss several issues of particular interest to the WI especially "plastic soup" and the funding for mental health as well as local concerns. Many thanks to Craig and his team for an excellent day."
