Thanet to benefit from over £800k of extra funding to tackle homelessness on the Isle

Craig Mackinlay MP has welcomed the Government’s announcement that Thanet has been allocated £881,034 of funding to tackle homelessness on the Isle in 2022/23.

The Spending Review committed some £2 billion to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping over the next three years to build on this progress. As part of that, the Government have earmarked £315.8 million in funding through the Homelessness Prevention Grant that will be made available to local authorities like Thanet District Council in 2022/23 to support them to deliver services to prevent and tackle homelessness.

The £881,034 allocated to Thanet comprises a Homelessness Prevention Grant amounting to £862,362 and Domestic Abuse (new burdens) grant of £18,672 to support homeless domestic abuse victims.

This builds on more than £800 million of Government investment to tackle rough sleeping and homelessness in 2021/22 and follows a £65 million top-up to the Homelessness Prevention Grant for 2021/22 announced in October, which will enable local authorities to help vulnerable households with rent arrears and reduce the risk of them being evicted and becoming homeless.

Craig Mackinlay MP commented:

“The Government has made excellent progress on its commitment to end rough sleeping, with rough sleeping levels falling 37% between 2019 and 2020. This further funding underlines the Government’s commitment to preventing homelessness and ending rough sleeping for good.

“Anyone in Thanet who is homeless, or at risk of homelessness, should approach Thanet Council for support.”
