South Thanet MP and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Civic Societies, Craig Mackinlay, joined members of The Ramsgate Society at The Customs House on Civic Day last Saturday, 16 June, where the winning entry for The Ramsgate Society Design Award 2018 was announced.
The Ramsgate Heritage Design Forum, launched at last year’s Civic Day, has judged the six entries nominated for this year’s award and decided that The Falstaff, a boutique hotel, restaurant and bar in Addington Street, Ramsgate, was the worthy winner. David Gullick, Chair of the Forum, presented the results and Clive Aslet, President of The Ramsgate Society, announced the winner and runners up.
In support of the work of the Neighbourhood Plan team, the Forum has also been putting together ideas for a Design Code and Ivan del Renzio presented a draft of the Code for inclusion in the Plan.
Craig Mackinlay MP commented:
“As chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Civic Societies and the Member of Parliament for South Thanet, I want to do all I can to make our local communities more attractive, enjoyable and distinctive, and to promote civic pride in our towns and villages.
“That’s why I am fully supportive of The Ramsgate Society’s efforts since 1964 to monitor and care for Ramsgate’s architectural heritage and this year’s Design Awards to celebrate design excellence across Ramsgate.
“I congratulate The Ramsgate Society and the Design Award winners at The Falstaff on a very successful Civic Day celebration.”
