It is with great pleasure that I update this page to announce that our campaign to save our green spaces has been a success. As you may be aware, on the 9th November, Thanet District Council announced that they would not sell off the two agricultural sites at Joss Bay and Cliff Field. This is an unprecedented success for the people of South Thanet.
Because of the support I received, I was able to send over 1,000 letters of objection to Chris Wells. Without such a strong local objection I imagine TDC are likely to have progressed with the fire sale of our green spaces. This just goes to show what a powerful force the local community can be when we all work together.
With a council so out of touch as TDC, we need strong local voices more than ever. I am tremendously proud to be a member of such an active and engaged community, which is not afraid to stand up to the council.
STOP TDC SELLING OUR PRECIOUS GREEN SPACES
On Tuesday 27th September, TDC's Cabinet voted to sell off 22 properties around Thanet. Two of these were some of Broadstairs' finest green spaces. Cliff Field at Joss Bay is one of the last pieces of seafront green space on the South Coast of England. These are precious resources that we have an obligation to protect for future generations. We all know that TDC has debts to pay after the debacle of Dreamland, but risking our landscape falling into the hands of potentially greedy developers is no way to go about it.
By law, TDC are forced to go through a consultation - this is our chance to stop this irresponsible sell-off. I've prepared a pro-forma letter so we can all make our voice heard. Please sign it by filling in the E-signature box below.
When you sign here we will send a copy of your objection to the Leader of TDC Chris Wells and other relevant officers. This method meets TDC's prescriptions for a formal objection.
